SoxFan -- yep, even for kids at some point it does get to be just a bit fucking much (at least as I recall it from the one comparable winter I had as a snow fort and snowball WARS-loving kid)
I hope you guys get a situation where the snow can melt gradually... a warm rain-on-snow event could probably overwhelm your drainage systems and do more damage than the snow itself, with all the backlog of water stored as snow.
With everything blanketed, i hope there are a few people keeping their bird feeders stocked, as their food sources are mostly unavailable, and sounds like it has been for an extended period.
It isn't necessarily socialism to help juncos out in the winter.
