Dan, I looked at Mircopro's website, and I could not find any Opteron workstations. The two high end workstations that they offered used dual Xeons.

The 450 Mhz Sparc is ok for a development machine, the dual-240 Opteron would be just my dream :) 512 Meg of Ram must be enough as well. So I fit the $2k bill.

Dan, Add a Matrox G450 dual head PCI video card ($125) for dual monitor workstation class graphics support and you're still under $2,000.

I don't think a Matrox G450 is what Tim Sweeney had in mind when he talks about his idea of a 64-bit workstation.
