Yep... Southern Democrats that were Democrats primarily because they hated the Republicans of Lincoln and the Civil War. But fortunately their view and version of the Democratic party does not exist today.
President Johnson, while pushing civil rights legislation through Congress, said something like... "The Democrats have lost the South forever"... and he understood southern racism better than any President we have had... including President Obama I think.
