I imagine they are using Nanosys' patents based on their licensing agreement. Nanosys must be able to produce both Cd-based dots and NHM dots. If this is true it looks like further trouble for Nanoco as their big claim to fame was the production of NHM dots.

Not quite "just like that"...Samsung has been building-up to this for quite awhile now. This will give you some idea of their own internal supply chain capabilities: http://global.ofweek.com/news/Samsung-and-LG-take-lead-in-the-QD-TV-market-24355 Per patent records; Samsung has at least 4 spin-off divisions that not only do their own research, but supply & manufacture as well & have generated at least 26 key QDot patents of their own. They also licensed QD patents from Nanosys & Evident, like these: http://www.digitalsignagenews.eu/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=196:samsung-in-quantum-dot-led-patent-agreement&catid=40:display-and-projection&Itemid=70 and http://www.nanosysinc.com/in-the-news/2015/1/9/compound-semi-nanosys-announces-patent-deal-with-samsung I have no idea if they can truly (by definition) "mass-produce" QDots...but Asians cultures are known to have built mountains, one basket full of dirt at a time, for centuries...we'll see.
