Bordynuik already bought real estate with some of his proceeds from this scam. The motel might even have a pool.
He was broke when he borrowed the money to buy the TRTN shell (which he never paid back and is still being sued for). A year later he wrote himself a contract guaranteeing he'd be the highest paid employee and taking a salary over $200k/yr (after promising he would take no salary until the company turned a profit). Then he sold $millions of dollars in stock.
During that period he lost $65 million investor dollars and has now walked away from the company.
