In Winning and Losing there's an education. Besides, you learn more losing. Not always fun, but getting a whooping can make you tougher and smarter ... AND ... He's got an uncle who can coach him through it.
I don't know if you read Reminiscences or not, but I did not feel so bad about my bad trades after reading that book. The quote that sticks out is 'first you have to learn what not to in order to not lose money. Then you can begin learning what to do in order to win. '
The kids got a good teacher. He'll do fine.

Timing is everything. I've always wanted a tool to track the market, along with scans. In a raging bull, all ships rise, any scan will be good. If the market sucks, well....chances are, the bullish strategy is going to fight the wave.

Truthfully, if the young man sticks to his guns and let's the divy re-invest at lower prices. It may prove to be an extremely valuable lesson.

I've already named this year the "Year of the Vanishing Dividends". I'm building a list of some though seems their divis are either being cut or eliminated. Not all will recover right away either, CLF is one example and make the due diligence even more prudent. But the good ones most likely will and so will their divis. The trick is getting in and covering the basis and moving on to the next one. If I can manage to do that a few times this year that would be quite an accomplishment. I'm looking for this to continue quite possibly into 3rd quarter.
