The case does look like metal but it could be plastic.
This model is aimed at the professional doing work that requires heavy-duty graphics and the graphics solution that they use is beefier than the one available for the MacBook Pro.
Chasing the MacBook * has been a hobby for a lot of PC Makers for quite some time. It seems to me that Apple hasn't worked all that hard on their PCs as they haven't really changed them that much over time.
One of the big differentiators for me (and many others) is Mac OS X. Microsoft has had a long time to improve Windows; instead, they made it more of a headache and they're certainly paying for it today.
