#6366 RE: rollingthunder #6364

Maybe Thunder, although I shudder to think what would be left of the PV industry should we return to the days of $2-$3/watt (my cost). XsunX's initial goal was to manufacturer under $1/watt, and with manufacturing prices at the time in the $1.50/watt range that looked very promising. They also seemed to hit each of their R&D performance and testing goals, and we all bought a little more stock and discussed what wine we would serve with our crow dinner. But the market is a powerful force.

First Solar is making thin film work with their cadmium telluride (CdTe) technology, but even they are struggling....they never even opened their brand new manufacturing facility in Arizona and shut down a large portion of their overseas production in 2012. They make a very efficient product, and real pretty too, but it's pricey, and it's only working because of First Solar's innovative vertically integrated business model. I believe Tom would like to follow in their footsteps, but he has a long row to hoe. Thin film will have a very difficult time competing with Si, now, or ever.

Plus, you know I'm very skeptical about the CIGS process they are/were developing. It's one thing to make a fancy looking chamber and have it pass pressure and temperature tests, it's another thing altogether to actually begin depositing the material, and then yet another gigantic leap to a fully tested marketable product. Mark my words: It ain't gonna happen.

But there's lots of opportunity for growth and development in the solar industry. I believe we are only scratching the surface of solar collection possibilities and that one day soon 100% of our electrical requirements will be met with the sun. This will take great pressure off of fossil fuels and the balance of powers in the World will shift. My goal is to get out ahead of that tidal wave and ride it for 1000 miles. I'd sure like to see XsunX catch that wave too. Any other surfers out there?

Keep your eye on Imergy....all we can do is watch for now, but one day soon.......$$$.
