Generally I would agree with you that leasing is not a good decision...however there are situations where it makes more sense from a tax perspective to utilize leases, or in an area where technology changes rapidly.
I think it is a bad decision to lease solar panels from the perspective that the panels are on your house and if you sell you will need to factor in the lease liability...if the solar panel leases were 3-5 year leases similar to IT equipment, then it might not be a bad idea as you know in 3-5 years there will be technology improvements that you will be able to take advantage of.
