Where movies are concerned, a quartet of (very!) back catalogue movies from Sony Pictures Entertainment is available to Prime subscribers at no extra cost. These are: ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’; ‘Funny Girl’; ‘Hitch’; and ‘Philadelphia’.
Fortunately that’s not the end of Amazon’s 4K Ultra HD movie story, for all Amazon customers will additionally be able to buy (for prices starting at $19.99) a wider and in many cases more up to date selection of Sony-sourced 4K films including this lot: ‘After Earth’ (ouch), ‘American Hustle’, ‘Captain Phillips’, ‘Elysium’, ‘Godzilla’, ‘Hancock’, ‘Moneyball’, ‘The Mask of Zorro’, ‘The Monuments Men’, ‘The Amazing Spider Man’, ‘The Amazing Spider Man 2’, ‘The Da Vinci Code’, ‘The Patriot’, ‘Think Like A Man Too’, and ‘This Is The End’.
Rounding out the Amazon 4K roll out is the ‘Tony Bennet & Lady Gaga: Cheek To Cheek Live’ concert, which Amazon is making available free to its Instant Video customers – presumably as this will give them a taste of the 4K picture quality they’re missing out on by not subscribing to Prime!
