Not sure whom you trade with but I know Etrade has an option wherein they will sell a "worthless" security for you if the proceeds don't cover the trade fee. It's a call in request but that way a person can clear out a security and be able to take the loss. I'm sure most other brokers also offer an option similar to that.
Just an FYI if you are interested in selling it for the tax loss.
