So other taxes like federal gasoline tax, federal telephone tax, etc. don't count for those who need assistance?

but when I think of an entitlement I think of the programs that pay to those that are not paying into the system via taxes, SS, etc.

When politicians speak of 'entitlements', SS and Medicare are at the top of the list.

The Social Security and Medicare Entitlement Programs already make up 56% of the Federal Budget - and within seven years will soak up 64% of Federal spending! The Social Security and Medicare Entitlement Programs are out of control.

That's why Republicans say the majority of Federal spending is simply a socialist wealth transfer from people who work to lazy people like yourself who expect the system to provide for them.

Add military spending to these two welfare programs and the total for these three programs exceeds current tax receipts! That leaves America with a budget deficit, even before we pay for any other essential spending, like corporate tax cuts or roads.

For a welfare type like yourself who believes that money for these two bloated Entitlement Programs just appears out of thin air, that's not a problem. But in the real world you're demanding huge new tax increases just to pay for these two welfare programs you think you're entitled to - which is why Republicans call them "Entitlement Programs".
