re: my opinion is that Rambus is NOT dealing with the amigos weakly

Hey Johnny,

Great post. If Hughes's interview comments were calculated, your take makes sense to me. Think you are giving Hughes too much credit myself.

Newton's Third Law of Motion suggests there will be some reaction to his public whine, so let's hope it comes in the form of a long line of non-litigant infringers taking Hughes up on his offer, and future Judges and juries giving the benefit of the doubt to Rambus, the victim.

Wonder how much shareholders will be giving away in rightful damages and royalties to pay for Hughes's new Casper Milquetoast act? Appeasement is not free.

Still think Hughes made Rambus appear weak, but won't say it again.

"The Softer Side of Rambus"

Jaw,
I think you have analyzed Rambus' public strategy correctly. HH is trying to shake the old bully/agressor public image and replace it with one of reasonableness and accord. He wants the public to perceive Rambus as a small company that has made great technological contributions to society and just wants to collect the reasonable royalties that it needs to survive and prosper. While HH portrays "the softer side of Rambus," JD's role is the heavy who is being held back by HH from going after the violators with the major artillery of the courts.

HH is the peacemaker, attempting to restrain the aggressiveness of JD, but needs some immediate cooperation from the infringers. It's all about public image, and the new "Softer Side of Sears, oops, Rambus."
