Depends on where you look. USPTO doesn't really publish figures on it. Law firms that do Patent Law will quote anywhere from 24-36 months depending on the depth, complexity and breadth of the patent. Simple ones can be done as quickly 3 months. I'm not a patent attorney, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn recently. ;)
