That's disgusting, there's no way you can compete price wise.

While the unlicensed contracting has been significantly curbed here, there are still plenty of dirtbag contractors around to rip off unsuspecting customers. I guess you can't ever get rid of all the crooks.

A couple of years ago we were working on a commercial job, merging two old homes into one coffee shop. It was a pretty major deal and went on for months. One day the Workman's Comp folks turned up on the job and demanded that everyone on the job show their Workman's Comp paperwork.

After we all showed our proof, the WC people were acting apologetic for interrupting our work. They changed to a look of delight when we thanked them for doing what they do.

At the time, our WC ran 40% of payroll, so how could we compete against those who didn't get it. We insist that all subs show proof of all insurances before they ever do any work for us.
