I agree he is one of the best ever. I was not wild about his woman stuff or apparent cheating a couple years ago. And to be fair, I was not fond of Jack putting him down early in his career. If Tiger had played in the 60's 70's and 80's like Jack when the competition was not near as strong as now, he'd have already won more majors than Jack.
Nicklaus tidbit. I was 12 years old and a caddy at a course just went of Minneapolis. They had an amateur tourney called the Trans Mississippi. It was qualifying then match play for the top 8 or such. I was a fore caddy at the 14th hole, a blind dogleg par 5. I just helped them find their errant drives and guided their 2nd shot in some cases. The last day it was down to Jack and Dean Beman, who went on to be a top circuit winner as well as Jack. Jacks caddy was a friend of my older sister. The last day he feared getting lost in the gallery if he replaced divots and had me follow along for 36 holes and replace them. Jack was so intense he probably did not know I was even there. And he hit the ball like nobody I ever saw. He had a slight fade so when the average good players ball would start descending, Jacks' fade kicked it and it like rose in overdrive. Jack won the match, 1 up. He was 19 at the time, his caddy 18, lol. Jack asked the caddy if he wanted to be his permanent caddy. Dave turned him down since he had a year of school left and was to be the football quarterback and starting guard on the basketball team and accepted in a college already for after his senior year. Oh what cold have been, lol.
