#138531 RE: Golfbum #138530

I believe that NYSE also has tougher standards for a company to maintain its listing on the exchange. It smells that AMD sees bad years ahead, and so it wants to save money by moving to NASDAQ and it wants to avoid the ignominy of being possibly delisted from NYSE.

The press release is just an exercise in PR.

Jerry Sanders must be pained by this move. For years he was proud of the fact that AMD was listed on the prestigious NYSE, while Intel elected to stay on NASDAQ since it was cheaper. Finally in the 90's Intel was listed on NYSE. I believe that happened because several institutional investors would not invest in a NASDAQ stock, and so Intel gave in and was listed on NYSE as well.

Another blow to Jerry's ego.
