Calico has already signed a Parkinson's development deal with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Volgoat, thanks for that post and I have this big bag of puzzle pieces on my walls and I'm going to pull this one down from the many pieces that exist. Must be nice to have Google types of money and Black Rock is a big Google backer as well...but anyhow, this sort of clearly gives reason on why the Parkinson's interest and I would certainly not leave it up to Big Pharma because I think we just went thru 20+ years of basically being told chemo was the best that they could do... the hell with that I say.

Health issues are an area of personal interest for Google co-founders Page and Sergey Brin. In May, Page announced that he had a rare nerve disease that limited the movement of his vocal cords and briefly sidelined him from public speaking. He also said he had been diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, a thyroid inflammatory condition he said gives him no trouble.

Brin has said that he has a higher-than-average chance of being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, which his mother had.

How does Sergey Brin feel about scientist? pretty good I'd say

"Scientists should be celebrated as heroes, and we're honored to be part of today's celebration of the newest winners of the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences and the Fundamental Physics Prize," said Anne Wojcicki and Sergey Brin in a news release announcing the awards.

There is perhaps no better testament to Levinson's clout in the drug development world than the fact that his involvement in Calico gave it instant credibility in an industry quick to snicker at any and all billionaires parachuting into biotech with lofty rhetoric. If Page and partner Sergey Brin convinced Levinson, the thinking went, they must be onto something.

----------------------------------------------------------

If Google, with its billions of dollars, finds the digital health industry restrictive, then the environment must be even tougher for startups, Brin seemed to suggest.
