fuagf -- I continue to get by acceptably/just fine using a VPN service -- it probably helps that in the last few months my cable internet service has been ramped up to (a nominal) 100 Mbps (in practice, with no VPN engaged, typically about half that); the VPN service I use does slow that down a bit, but still gives throughput plenty adequate for what I do -- so I haven't (yet) looked into or tried any other options (I am 'keeping' your post for future reference, thanks)
