The only thing you need to know about a dividend or a split is the ex-dividend date (or ex-date.) If you buy before the ex-date and hold until the ex-date you will receive the dividend or split shares. The shares or cash may not appear in your account for a few days, but they are yours. On the ex-date the stock price is adjusted to account for the dividend/split.

Ignore the record date, pay date, etc.
