Call me cynical, but I believe there is hardly any chance EPGL being able to exist on it's own. Its simply not in the mentality of Giant companies. Its such a dog eat dog business. Every major Giant company would have to agree to allow EPGL to exist on it's own. Every Giant wants to be King of the Hill. EPGL can make that happen. The Giants know that every small company has price. Will they risk letting their rival discover that price and implement it first.
If EPGL exists on it's own and stands to help a Giant's rivals profit, the Giants just won't sit back and let that happen. If one Giant out of ten stands to take market share from other 9 Giants using EPGL's technology, the other 9 will attack. The mentality will be "If I can't have it, nobody can." They will spend millions attacking the company and it's stock. Millions on bogus patent lawsuits in an attempt to drain EPGL's resources. They do it to each other ALL THE TIME! When you have billions in your coffers, you will spend millions to protect it.
Their best option is to try and get their hands on EPGL and keep everything for themselves. Additionally, if EPGL's tech has the ability to save a competitor, their rival would buyout EPGL just to see their rival go out of business allowing their share of the market to become open game.
EPGL's IP is kept secret for a reason. They aren't fully advertising their deals for a reason. Every company right now is trying to get that 'secret weapon'. Its why everything is so damn quiet in regards to this emerging industry. Unless you go digging for it, you won't hear about any of it! Google messed up big when they announced their tech. It blew up in their face when it turned out to be outdated and inefficient. Ego got the best of them and now they look like fools. COO won't make that mistake. Intel won't make that mistake. They will keep as much as possible close to the chest in order to preserve the element of surprise.
There is one chance that EPGL could stand alone and operate. Supply vs Demand. How many other start-up companies will sprout up with a specific technology to help the Giants? How many Giants will develop their own technology? If the majority of Giants obtain the ability to bring their products to life through other start-up companies' technology, and EPGL now isn't the only supplier of technology, they have a small shot at not being snatched off the market and being able to function on their own.
The fact that Intel, the clear leader in the tech industry, has a development deal in place with EPGL along with joint IP, shows how far ahead EPGL's tech is over anybody elses. To have technology in this industry that Intel's own R&D department doesn't have is extraordinary! You can bet Intel did their homework on EPGL, Dr. David Markus, etc. Clearly there isn't any other start-up out there that can do what Intel needs.
All and all, its win/win situation. If EPGL is allowed to operate on it's own, they stand to make billions upon billions over the next 10 years. If they get bought out, it would be for billions. The shareholders win either way.
