Until June 2013 they were a completely different company called First Independence Corp. I don't know whether it was "real" or not. CodeSmart was a private company until it did its reverse merger with First Independence. At the same time, it also did a 2:1 forward split. That would of course have halved the stock price.

CodeSmart did and does have a business: training people to do medical coding. But that business had barely got off the ground when the Shapiro scandal hit.
