Those who owned the Tech Sector ETFs in 2000 were taken to the woodshed and beaten badly. Many have never regained their peak values in all this time.

They didn't go to zero, but they were deeply depressed for a long time.

Even passbook savings at a bank can have problems regardless of FDIC.
