What comes to my mind is the dramatic number of blockbuster mass-market drugs that have gone generic in the last few years - Lipitor and Nexium are the biggies, but there are several others.
Of course those aren't exactly "unexplained" by anyone with access to a calendar and a list of patent expirations, but maybe that's assuming too much.
