Sector Update: Energy Stocks Lower as Crude Slips Below $80 per Barrel

OXY: -0.52% Energy shares were mainly lower in pre-market trade Thursday as crude oil futures dropped below $80 per barrel.
Light, sweet crude oil for December delivery was down 0.88% at $79.44 per barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was down 0.73% at $2.42 per gallon while natural gas was up 0.61% at $3.38 British thermal units.
In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund(USO) was down 1.06% at $30.90. The United States Natural Gas ETF (UNG) was up 1.28% at $19.84.
In other energy news, Xcel Energy(XEL) , a power and gas utility, reported Q3 results that missed Street projections on both EPS and total revenues, hurt by weather impact.
The company reported Q3 adjusted EPS of $0.73, down from $0.77 in 2013 and missing analyst estimates of $0.75 for the quarter.
Total revenues of $2.86 billion were up from $2.82 billion in Q3 2013 but fell short of analyst projections of $3.20 billion.
Shares in the company were trading 0.04% higher at $32.86 during Thursday's pre-market trading session. Over the past 52 weeks, the company has traded between $27.27 and $33.16.
