Let us say that you are a MM at UBSS with your firms name on the box, such as UBSS is at this time. They have no bid or ask, but lots of orders flow passes by them. They get an order from a buyer for 9,000,000 shares at .0001 and fill it without a corresponding sell order. If that actually happened, at this point they are short. That is just one posibility.
