[edit] History Live Audio Wrestling started out on an internet radio station in Canada known as Virtually Canadian in 1997. It aired on the internet for a year and a half before being picked up by Canadian sports talk station The Fan 590 in Toronto, where it was initially broadcast via the internet only. Within a few months in early 1999, the show moved onto The Fan 590's airwaves and into their schedule, airing on late Sunday evenings. In the fall of 1999, the show expanded with a Saturday afternoon edition.
The LAW aired on The Fan 590 until September 2000 when it moved to rival station CFYI - Talk 640 as a companion to the station's radio broadcasts of Toronto Maple Leafs games. In April 2001, when CFYI changed the station's format to Mojo Radio - Talk Radio For Guys, the show's Saturday afternoon edition was dropped, leaving only the Sunday evening program where it remains to this day.
[edit] Announcers The show started out with co-hosts Big Daddy Donnie Abreu & Chris "Notorious T.I.D." Tidwell, who were later joined by producer Jeff Marek when the show aired on the Fan 590. Eventually Tidwell left the show to pursue an independent wrestling career as did Abreu who left to became a writer for SLAM! Wrestling.
After Abreu departed in early 2000, Jeff Marek was joined by Dan "The Mouth" Lovranski who formerly worked behind the scenes on the show. This opened a spot for Jason Agnew to join the program as the technical producer. Future WWE Diva Trish Stratus also briefly served as a co-host of the show in the Fan 590 era before she signed with WWE.
In 2003, Jeff Marek left the show as host to work full-time on his other on air-roles at Mojo Radio, including hosting a daily talk show on the Toronto Maple Leafs in the afternoon. Jason Agnew filled the vacant role as he became a permanent co-host while John Pollock, a writer for the show's website, was promoted to fill Agnew's role as producer.
Dave Meltzer, editor of the popular Wrestling Observer Newsletter, joins the show usually at the start of the second hour to discuss the big stories in pro wrestling and MMA for that week.
[edit] The Fight Network buys majority interest in The LAW In January 2005, The Fight Network purchased a majority stake in The LAW and in February of that same year they announced that they had secured an agreement with Broadcast News for national distribution the program across the country on various stations. Shortly thereafter The LAW was added on Calgary's Fan 960, Winnipeg's CJOB 680 and Vancouver's Mojo Sports Radio 730.
In July 2005, The Fight Network launched a new version of The LAW's website including archived shows and interviews. These were formerly available on the site until 2003, when they were removed due to bandwidth issues.
There are plans to simulcast Live Audio Wrestling on The Fight Network in the near future.
