While intended to provide health benefits of pathogen control or removal and, in some cases, safety benefits of materials preservation, they also involve risks of potential efficacy failure and exposure of hazards to humans and the environment. Therefore, the effectiveness and proper use of an antimicrobial pesticide is determined by EPA based on its evaluation of specific data that is provided as part of registration and registration review activities."
