It's a small screen and you want that for a table but that HDMI port means that you can plug it into an Acer 23 inch HD monitor for $139, add a KBM and you have a nice desktop.

My question on the Surface (besides pricing) is why there isn't an option for a hard cover with decent keyboard travel?

All of this stuff is nice in the cheap seats but my favorite system is the 15 inch Retina MacBook Pro. Yeah, you get a lot in the $2K+ range.

I just reconfigured my 2008 MacBook Pro to run Mavericks. I ran a lot of experiments with operating systems and I'm going to upgrade it to Mavericks and continue to use it for a while longer until I decide whether or not to make the rMBP my main laptop (it was purchased for family use as a spare loaner for travel). It's really easy to play with operating systems on Macs because they're free and you can just copy them around from disk to disk.
