Actually it is true. If you look up a patent at the USPO, only the original assignee will be shown.

"Assignee Name (AN)
This field contains the name of the individual or entity to whom ownership of the patent was assigned at the time of patent issue."

And you pasted the wrong link, we are not talking about trademarks. You should have posted

Using that, I agree with you that I can not find an official assignment of the patent from Ed Starrs to Myecheck, which is why it would not be on the balance sheet.

I believe there must be a legally binding provision between Ed and MYEC for MYEC to use the patent, or these new customers would not be coming on board, and the lawsuit would not have been filed.
