That's true. It used to be that you could call up some brokers, provide the ssn and then tell them to change your address over the phone. You could then tell them to send a check. I don't think it works that way anymore, but one broker which will remain nameless used to be that way. I complained at the time (a few years ago) because I told them they had no idea if it was me calling or not.
