I've read that there has never been a virus known yet that has changed its mode of transmission via a mutation.

It sounds like you are really confused or trying to spread misinformation that can panic people, so please stop it. Viruses that generate recombination dependent variation are those whose genomes are composed multiple linear RNA molecules. The classic example is influenza, which has 8 different linear RNA molecule per genome. When different strain are present in a single cell, the different segments from each strain can be assembled into one viral capsid, which can have significantly different properties than in the original strain. This independent assortment is referred to as viral recombination.

The Ebola genome is comprised of a single circular single stranded RNA molecule. Recombination is not a possibility.
