I think I've figured this mystery out. |||| equals the letters of MINE, with each letter rotated on its vertical axis so that you only see four vertical lines. This is to signify that MINE is going through a major transformation from just a stock symbol into either a cheese grater or an afro comb.
This theory may still need some refinement (and some government grants) before it can get published in a scientific journal though.
