The plot thickens on Apple A8

Yes I'd like to know what they were talking about with their 25%.

The only possible explanation I can see is that they are talking about long term performance under load. Hopefully Anandtech will investigate and answer this properly.

And what are all the extra transistors for as well? The CPU obviously is just a shrink with minor improvements at most, basically a tick. How many extra could be used in just reducing the power requirements? Some would be used in the GPU but obviously a whole lot are being used for something else. The extra camera functionality wouldn't take up so many so I think they must have just stuck in a bigger cache. Anyway I'm keeping an eye on Chipworks for the answers at

And, mysteriously, it took them "~2B" transistors to rev the design. Although this was argued as one of the more impressive feats of engineering (mostly due to the density improvements in transistors per mm2)

Or a metric s**t ton of on-chip SRAM. The A7 had a 3 MB block just for
giggles and the A8 could add a lot of dense transistors by bumping up
the size of this SRAM.
