I found the following of interest:

As many as 4,500 clinical trials involving stem cells are underway in the United States to treat patients with heart disease, blindness, Parkinson’s, H.I.V., diabetes, blood cancers and spinal cord injuries, among other conditions.



But, there is no question that there are a lot of charlatons out there. I'd never use a stem cell treatment that didn't come from a company without major university connections. Too many wild clinics with wild promises.

It will be interesting to see which companies are left standing in 10 years.
