I'm not a lawyer (even though I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night), but I suspect that it just further insulates them/families from litigation that could come up. For instance, say an airliner goes down and it gets blamed on a faulty fuel nozzle. I can't imagine the s&!t storm of litigation that would come down on them/GE/everybody.
