There's a rule as to when one shakes and not stirs? I usally ask her which she prefers.


If it has fruit juice (aviation, corpse reviver #2), it gets shaken. If not (martini, Manhattan), it gets stirred. Exception: any drink with pineapple juice (Algonquin) gets stirred, not shaken.

I know the traditional Vesper, but I also think Wondrich has a point in reversing the vodka/gin ratios:

Mostly because lillet is so unaggressive compared to vermouth.
