There is actually a great need for demo material in stores, especially for the cheaper UHDTVs like Seiki.

The Samsungs have a "demo reel" built into them, and the Sonys are generally displayed with their own player.

I always thought that NTEK's best strategy on realizing that their box is a dog in the marketplace (which has been very obvious for several months) would be to announce that they're handing it over to their sign division and making demo units for rental to Best Buy. Not to sell NP-1s to consumers, because really, it's not a good device and virtually no one would buy it, but to help stores sell UHDTVs.

That's even an honest business, which I think NTEK insiders are at pains to avoid at all costs, but it's not a huge business. Not a public company with a market cap of tens of millions of dollars, certainly.

Announcing that they were turning NP-1s over to the sign division and cancelling pre-orders for them would have been a lot easier than slapping together a few dozen units out of MOJOs and handing them out to investors and continuing the ever more ludicrous pretense that there are tens of thousands of them all across America.

I tend to have a different opinion and don't think STB's will become obsolete. Just like many people like other things ala carte...I think many will opt for the ala carte options when purchasing TV's and STB's.

I have a 55" 4k TV at our place in Florida and am using a 1080p TV while up here in Michigan which I can also use my Nuvola NP-1 on albeit without 4k content.

When I travel to Florida...I expect to take my Nuvola NP-1 with me and when I come back to Michigan again...I plan on bringing the Nuvola NP-1 with me.

I may buy another Nuvola NP-1 and designate it for Florida or I might wait until the next model comes out.

For me, to have been able to buy a 55" 4K non-smart TV for $499.99 and a Nuvola NP-1 for $299 it was an easy choice versus buying a smart 4K TV for hundreds/thousands more dollars and with less options than what can be had with a portable and flexible STB was the way to go for me and I suspect others.

I have no intentions of lugging big screens back and forth between locations or spending money for another big screen which is a smart TV if the Nuvola NP-1 is doing all I need it to do.

I also like the fact that I can take my Nuvola NP-1 to friends homes and businesses and demo the product for them.
