Chart moves before news - don't forget the people who bring you the news also trade - or find ways to manipulate the fresh news. For example, remember the big 5 million share dump a few days ago - the chart moved, then we learned why - the frenchies were cashing in. I play the chart and listen to the news later if I want to know why it moved.
The charts simply record the reaction of traders to the markets - people have emotions and react the same always - that's why those reactions are chartable and somewhat predictable - JMO - fun stuff!
