They can't sell the land. It is federal land and they only have the rights to extract the minerals. That being said, there are no minerals on the land.

All the buzz going on is with adjacent parcel owners trying to get mining activity on their sites.

Care to share what you've read or heard...

Might be interesting, or at least worth a good laugh, considering that there is no known gold mineralization anywhere in the area.
