Yes, the inability of people these days to even listen to another's POV much less empathize is remarkable and frightening. It costs absolutely nothing to entertain thoughts other than your own and allows a personal exchange that can sometimes be meaningful, intimate, and even life changing if taken to heart. When I was a teenager we would go to "coffee houses" or hang out in the woods, talk all night and greet the morning sun as friends and people feeling good about ourselves and the time spent together even though we didn't all agree with each other. We accepted each other for what we were because we were just human beings trying to find our purpose in life. Any differences were secondary and often a point of great humor and teasing in a good natured way.Oh well, welcome to the 21st century and the Zombie Nation where free thinking is a crime.
