Tape out is fairly close to wafer start, probably the space of a week, depending on how you define the actual "tape out". And January was 3 months ago, so when you do the math, your statement seems to coincide with mine.
What different definitions of tape out are there? I always thought that between tape out (signing off the physical design) and the first wafer start there was an extra step to create the mask set.
