Actually, rust is not the issue. Cyclone claims the water lubrication will work because they use plastics that become very slippery in the presence of water and this slipperiness will make the engine feasible. Given that plastic means something that deforms under load and temperature, this is a questionable (and so far unproven) hypothesis.

Using a steel piston eliminates the water lubrication as an option and they are claiming it is integral to the product and necessary. Based on their own concepts, steel (or any metal) pistons are a no-no.
