What do the green and red "B"s mean? Are they just local highs and lows?

I was reading Stephen Bigalow's Profitable Candlestick Trading: Pinpointing Market Opportunities over the summer. He talks about using candlestick's by themself, and also using them in combination with other technical indicators like Macd and STO. Interesting stuff.
