if one goes to the SEC site - there is a specific section discussing social media as an acceptable disclosure medium and rules and guidelines on acceptable use.

one can search on: SEC disclosure rules concerning social media and find a wealth of information.

while i dont use social media on a personal basis (or to a very limited degree), i find it very useful and very cost effective for small companies. they are not held to second or third tier releases based on time nor the cost of traditional PRs being released on the news wires. however, they also take on considerable responsibility about what they release as even flippant remarks can become "policy" or guidance. this is where i have seen a dramatic change in verbiage on PRs and social media since Veal has come aboard. there is considerably less bravado and puffery and the posts/tweets are more vague wihle still trying to convey the individual successes
