You've summarized the issue perfectly.
I've never understood how these guys manage to profess shock at the notion that the Intel's self-admittedly aggressive business tactics might cross the line into the unethical or illegal, especially when corroborated with numerous, variably credible to be sure, anecdotal reports of just such behavior.
It's garden-variety fingers-in-the-ears, "La-La-La", "don't destroy my faith" denial.
