Perry is the 1st in nearly 100 years .. excerpt from end ..

The last Texas governor to face criminal charges was James E. “Pa” Ferguson, who was indicted in 1917 by a Travis County grand jury on embezzlement and eight other charges. His case also involved a veto that angered his critics: Mr. Ferguson vetoed the entire appropriation to the University of Texas because the university had refused to fire certain faculty members. The state Senate voted to impeach him, but he resigned first.

Correction: August 15, 2014
An earlier version of this article and an accompanying summary described incorrectly the grand jury that issued the indictment against Gov. Rick Perry of Texas. It is a county, not a state, grand jury.

Internet Poll: The most shocking thing about Rick Perry's vetoes is:
a) His abuse of power
b) His disregard for law
c) His ability to sign his name

Texas Judge Tells Whiny Rick Perry That His Trial For Corruption Is Still On

Author: Stephen D Foster Jr January 27, 2015 9:04 pm

Rick Perry will definitely have to juggle campaign stops with court appearances after a Texas judge denied the former Republican governor’s petition to have the case dismissed.

As you’ll fondly recall, the conservative with a ten gallon hat for his 10 ounce brain found himself indicted .. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2014/08/15/breaking-rick-perry-indicted-on-two-felonies/ .. on two felony charges by a grand jury back in August.

Perry now faces up to 99 years in prison for withholding $7.5 million from the public integrity unit in an effort to force Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, a Democrat, to resign. When he vetoed the funding, Perry abused his power just like previous Texas Governor James Ferguson did back in 1917, which was the time a sitting chief-executive of the Lone Star State ended up being indicted for corruption.

The cases are even similar to each other.

Just as Perry vetoed state funding to an organization because he doesn’t like who leads it, Ferguson vetoed state funding to the University of Texas because he hated some of the faculty who taught there. In other words, there’s plenty of precedence to compare Perry’s case to.

After posing for his mugshot and losing his firearms, Perry dug himself a deeper hole by threatening the grand jury and prosecutor .. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2014/11/04/texas-governor-rick-perry-threatened-grand-jury-after-being-indicted-for-abusing-power/ . “I am confident we will ultimately prevail, that this farce of a prosecution will be revealed for what it is, and that those responsible will be held to account (emphasis mine),” Perry said.

Ever since, Perry and his high-priced attorneys have been trying to squash the case. They petitioned Judge Bert Richardson to dismiss, claiming that the veto was perfectly constitutional and that the case was improperly brought against him. Well, Judge Richardson gave Perry and his legal team some very bad news, which is very good news for us. The last-ditch petition was denied .. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2015/01/texas-judge-denies-rick-perrys-petition-to-drop-abuse-of-power-charges/ . That means Perry will have to spend many months ahead scheduling court appearances with campaign stops in his already doomed quest to become president in 2016.

After all, it’s hard to believe that donors will contribute to Perry’s campaign when $1 million worth of campaign funds have already been used to pay for his legal battle. Plus, you can’t be President of the United States while wearing an orange jumpsuit and sharing a jail cell with an inmate who thinks you’re the prettiest thing he’s seen in a long time.
