In full disclosure, I should say that eventually (i.e. THREE YEARS LATER) a buy out did occur. I was privy to the knowledge that it was going to occur, but those discussions did not even start until 6 months before it actually happened (I knew about it because I worked at HQ). That still means that out in the field, it was nothing but misinformation for the first 2 1/2 years, and rumor for the final 6 months (because it could have fallen apart at anytime).
MajTahal - you are right, insider info can be beneficial (legalities aside), but you really have to consider which insider you are getting the info from - and, personally, I don't consider a store manager to be a reliable source (they are usually one-two steps higher than a sales person and 3-5 steps below the people actually making the decisions).
