That is BS, it is just barite. The only concerns of the oil field service companies are that it has a SG of 4.2 or 4.1, that it is of the right grind and that it is low in soluable calcium. These are the API specs they all use. The EPA has some other requirements for heavy metals in barite used offshore. They will use any barite that meets these specs. 4.2 is used mainly offshore. Most of the inland has moved to 4.1 because it is generally cheaper.
