#218768 RE: Finga On Da Trigonometry #218747

The only Native 4k NTEK can Do is

That Coded in H264
Leaving out Netflix and Youtube
That are Coded in H265 and VP9

The Tegra 4 is not Capable of H265

And All of NTEKs Crap Library is "Upscaled"
By the Very definition of it

This is the very definition of upscaling:

Quote:
4K Silver. 4K Studios has also developed a proprietary method for taking films that were shot digitally, in HD, 2K, or 2.7K, that were originally authored to DVD or Blu-ray, working with the original master and re-mastering them in 4K producing a far better result than "up scaling" an HD file. The result is a far superior experience in 4K than the consumer would ever get by simply up scaling the Blu-ray or DVD using hardware scaling built into TV's or other devices.

You're turning SD and HD content into 4K digitally. You might do a better job of upscaling than the Marseille chip or the Tegra 4 can do by doing it in the studio, but it's still upscaling. That's what the word means.

As an example, it's possible that the chip solution does a bi-linear or even bi-quadratic interpolation. Bi-cubic, which is what Photoshop and most photo editors would default to, is better, but requires more computational power and more memory. Even better is to use bi-cubic and sharpen the edges.

Many Blu-Rays are upscaled from DVD. Any video freak can tell you that this is a cheat, and no one should buy an upscaled Blu-Ray and think they're getting the real thing.

They should not be permitted to charge a 4K price for upscaled content.

Some of that might come under the heading of small-l lies, though. They're being reasonably up front, within the bounds of marketing b.s., about the source of their content. If Ultraflix is up and running and there's real 4K content here, this issue might not be all that significant at the end of the day.
